New Delhi: In light of the ongoing India-Pakistan conflict and a surge in misinformation across social media platforms, the Government of India has stepped up efforts to combat fake news and maintain national security. Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious or false information to the official PIB Fact Check team.
To facilitate this, the government has shared an official WhatsApp number and email ID for the public to use. Misinformation can be reported via WhatsApp at +91 8799711259 or emailed directly to factcheck@pib.gov.in.
The advisory highlights the critical importance of vigilance in the digital space, especially during sensitive times of conflict. “Stay sharp online—don’t fall for traps or misinformation. Follow strong security practices, verify sources, and protect your data,” the government said in a statement.
With the internet often becoming a breeding ground for manipulated content and panic-inducing messages during international tensions, authorities are keen on curbing the spread of such content before it can have a destabilizing impact.
The PIB Fact Check initiative has been active in debunking viral misinformation and clarifying government policies since its inception. This move reinforces the government’s commitment to transparency, security, and responsible information-sharing in times of crisis.
