Subject: Delegation from Kargyam Village Submits Urgent Appeal to Honourable CEC, LAHDC Leh
Leh, Ladakh – A delegation from Kargyam village, led by the Councillor Chushul Konchok Stansin, Nambardar Thinless Angchuk, Youth Association President, and Village Education Chairman, along with Chairman Education Committee, met with the Honourable Chief Executive Councillor (CEC) and Chairman of LAHDC Leh, Advocate Shri Tashi Gyaltson, to present an urgent appeal regarding key development concerns in the remote village of Kargyam, Durbuk Block.
The delegation highlighted that, despite the rapid development in various parts of Ladakh, Kargyam remains one of the most neglected villages in terms of telecommunication, education, and essential infrastructure. They have requested immediate intervention from the authorities to address the following critical issues:
1. Installation of BSNL 4G Mobile Towers – The village still lacks access to reliable telecommunication services, significantly impacting education and daily communication. The delegation urged the authorities to expedite the long-pending installation of BSNL 4G mobile towers.
2. Provision of Pre-Fabricated Huts for Nomads – While the government has provided such huts in the past, many households remain excluded. The delegation requested additional allocation to support nomadic herders, who rely on these shelters for protection against the extreme weather conditions.
3. Revision of Entry Gate Project Cost – The proposed budget for Kargyam’s village entry gates has been set at ₹10 lakh per gate, whereas other regions have been allocated ₹20 lakh. The delegation appealed for a revision to ensure Kargyam receives similar support, considering its unique cultural and geographical significance.
4. Establishment of an Animal Centre – The community requested the setup of an Animal Centre to provide essential veterinary care and prevent untimely deaths of livestock due to illness and lack of medical facilities.
5. Construction of a Helipad – Given the village’s remote location and extreme weather conditions, the delegation stressed the urgent need for a helipad to facilitate emergency medical evacuations and other critical situations.
6. Construction of a Motorable Bridge – To address accessibility issues caused by the scattered geography of the village, the delegation proposed the construction of a motorable bridge at the Gyak Kyer-Kyer area. This would significantly ease mobility and improve connectivity for residents.
The Honourable CEC, Shri Tashi Gyaltson, acknowledged the concerns raised by the Kargyam delegation and assured that necessary steps would be taken to address these pressing issues. LAHDC Leh remains committed to the equitable development of all remote areas of Ladakh, ensuring improved infrastructure, connectivity, and overall well-being of the residents.
