532 cases settled in 1st National Lok Adalat held across UT of Ladakh
Leh, March 08, 2025: In a continued pursuit of delivering timely and affordable justice, Ladakh Legal Services Authority, under the distinguished leadership of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Tashi Rabstan, Chief Justice , High Court of J&K and Ladakh (Patron-in-Chief), Hon’ble Mr. Justice Sanjeev Kumar, Executive Chairman, Ladakh Legal Services Authority, and guidance of Hon’ble Mr. Justice Rajnesh Oswal, Chairman, High Court Legal Services Committee also Administrative Judge of District Leh, today organized the 1st National Lok Adalat of the current calendar year across the Union Territory of Ladakh.
This initiative aimed to foster peaceful settlements in a wide range of disputes both at pre-institution stage as well as those pending disposal before the Courts and Tribunals. The cases included motor accident claims, matrimonial issues, cheque bounce cases under the Negotiable Instruments Act, money recovery, and compoundable criminal cases, reinforcing the moto of providing easy accessible justice for all.
To facilitate maximum settlements of disputes, Pre-Lok Adalat sittings and pre-counselling sessions were organized well before the date of National Lok Adalat so that the parties get ample opportunity to engage in dialogue with their opponents to arrive at a consensus to resolve the dispute permanently. Besides, virtual meetings were also conducted to sensitize the stakeholders, officers of Legal Services Institutions, LADCs, Panel Lawyers, PLVs and others involved in strengthening Alternate Dispute Resolution mechanisms, these sessions highlighted the importance of Lok Adalat and encouraged parties to take maximum advantage of this platform.
As per the information received from various Legal Services Institutions working in Leh and Kargil districts of UT of Ladakh, out of the total 724 cases taken up by 11 Benches in the day long National Lok Adalat across the UT of Ladakh, 532 cases were amicably settled and disposed off involving settlement an amount of Rs. 1,53,52,431 paid as compensation etc. in cases like Motor Accident Claims, civil, criminal, labour disputes, Electricity and Land Acquisition, Family matters, cheque dishonor and Bank Recovery etc.
Manoj Parihar, Member Secretary, Ladakh Legal Services Authority appreciated the dedicated efforts of all the Judicial Officers, Secretaries DLSA’s, Advocates, staff of the district, tehsil courts and Legal Services Institutions, as well as the litigants, for their wholehearted participation in the National Lok Adalat. He further highlighted that the high participation and settlement of disputes is a testament to the public’s preference for resolving disputes through ADR mechanisms, which offer a quick and more affordable alternative to litigation.
The success of the 1st National Lok Adalat of the year demonstrates the continued dedication of the Ladakh Legal Services Authority to ensuring that justice is accessible, timely, and amicable for all citizens of the Union Territory.
