Leh, Feb 22, 2025: The Igo Phey Division, Leh, organised an educational field tour of the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at Agling for 25+ youth from Basgo village today.
The initiative aimed to raise awareness about the critical role of sewage treatment in water management, conservation and sustainable waste treatment.
The Executive Engineer, Igo Phey Division, Er. Tsering Angchuk along with Plant In-charge Ishfaq Wani, provided a detailed walkthrough of the plant’s operations, explaining each phase of the sewage treatment process. They also engaged with the participants in an interactive session, addressing their queries and highlighting how locals can contribute to efficient water usage and conservation efforts.
The Agling STP, with a capacity of 3 million liters per day (MLD), has been operational since 2021 and functions year-round, even during Ladakh’s harsh winters. It is the first STP in the Union Territory of Ladakh and a larger 12.5 MLD STP is currently in the pipeline to meet the growing needs of the population.
This educational field trip is an effort to create awareness among the youth about environmental issues, encouraging them to adopt simple, sustainable practices that can benefit their community and the region.
