JAMMU: In a significant step towards eradicating drug menace in Mendhar, the local police under the guidance of SHO Mendhar Ajaz Wani continues its efforts to make the region drug-free. A proactive operation was conducted today under the leadership of PSI Suram Singh, who laid a special naka (checkpoint) at Sangala Chowk, Mendhar.
During routine checking and frisking at the naka, a pedestrian was intercepted and subjected to personal search. The police recovered approximately 10 grams of chitta (heroin) in a small white polythene sachet from the individual’s pocket. Upon interrogation, the suspect identified himself as Mohd Irshad, son of Ghulam Sarwar, a resident of Ari Plaiser.
Following the recovery, a case under FIR No. 08/2025 was registered at Police Station Mendhar under Sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act. The accused has been taken into custody, and further investigations are underway to determine his supply chain, including both forward and backward linkages.
The arrested individual is alleged to have been actively involved in selling drugs to local youths in and around the Sangala Chowk and Hakeem Morh areas of Mendhar. This illegal activity has been a significant concern for the community, as it threatens the well-being of the younger generation.
SHO Ajaz Wani has reaffirmed his commitment to making Mendhar a drug-free zone. His team is focused on intensifying anti-drug operations, increasing vigilance in vulnerable areas, and ensuring that those involved in the illicit drug trade are brought to justice. The arrest is a testament to the Mendhar Police’s resolve to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the region.
The prevalence of drugs like chitta in rural areas like Mendhar highlights the growing challenge of narcotics reaching even remote regions. The police action is a timely intervention, sending a strong message to those involved in such activities. Community cooperation and vigilance will be crucial in supporting the police’s efforts to eliminate this menace.
While this arrest is a step in the right direction, the investigation into the accused’s network and suppliers will be crucial in dismantling the larger nexus. The Mendhar police have urged citizens to report any suspicious activities to help strengthen the collective fight against drug abuse.
This operation stands as an example of effective law enforcement and community-oriented policing in addressing societal challenges.
