DIG JSK Range Leads Meeting on Strict Action Against Gangsters and Criminals in Jammu, Samba, and Kathua Districts

JAMMU : Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the Jammu-Samba-Kathua (JSK) Range, chaired a critical meeting today to address the growing concerns about gangsters and criminal activities in the districts of Jammu, Samba, and Kathua. The meeting was attended by Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), Additional SPs, and Zonal Superintendents of Police.
During the session, the DIG emphasized the need for coordinated and comprehensive strategies to dismantle criminal networks and enhance public safety. He directed all officers to take resolute action against gangsters, antisocial elements, and their support systems. Key directives issued during the meeting include:
Key Directives and Strategies
1. Breaking Financial and Operational Networks:
• Officers were instructed to identify and dismantle the financial networks of criminals, including seizing properties acquired through illegal activities like extortion, land grabbing, and fraudulent property dealings.
• Proactive steps were advised to ensure the Public Safety Act is invoked against identified offenders.
2. Criminal Support Systems Under Surveillance:
• The DIG directed law enforcement to monitor and take legal action against individuals, including relatives and associates, who provide shelter or support to criminals.
3. Crackdown on Illegal Vehicle Modifications:
• A massive drive was ordered against vehicles with tinted glasses, illegal modifications, loud music, and missing number plates.
• Immediate action was recommended against individuals found in possession of illegal weapons.
4. Addressing Public Concerns on Land Grabbing and Extortion:
• Officers were urged to prioritize cases of land grabbing and extortion, ensuring swift action against those threatening public safety.
5. Community and Civil Society Engagement:
• Civil society, parents, and responsible citizens were called upon to collaborate with the police in curbing criminal activities.
• Awareness campaigns, public meetings, and seminars were proposed to educate youth about the dangers of glorifying criminal activities and the inevitable consequences of a life of crime.
6. Youth Protection Initiatives:
• The DIG stressed the importance of saving youth and students from falling into the traps of gangsters. He highlighted the need for targeted programs to steer young individuals toward positive life choices.
Security Measures for Republic Day 2025:
In light of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, the DIG also reviewed the security landscape and directed officers to
Strengthen checkpoints (nakas), especially in border areas and during late-night hours. Establish additional checkpoints in vulnerable zones.Maintain close coordination with intelligence agencies, including the Army, paramilitary forces, and central agencies, for real-time threat assessment and response.

The meeting concluded with the DIG urging officers to adopt a public-friendly approach while maintaining a firm stance against criminals. He reiterated the police’s role in ensuring a peaceful environment across all sections of society, emphasizing strong actions to dismantle criminal ecosystems.
