Kishtwar :In a decisive move to bolster security and prevent the misuse of mobile connectivity, the District Police Kishtwar has undertaken a rigorous inspection drive targeting SIM card vendor outlets across the district. The initiative emphasizes the proper verification and documentation of SIM card issuance, ensuring adherence to established regulatory protocols.
Led by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kishtwar, Sh. Javaid Iqbal Mir-JKPS, the drive aims to eliminate unauthorized practices like the sale of fake or pre-activated SIM cards. The inspection involved participation from Station House Officers (SHOs) of Kishtwar and Chatroo.
Key Directives Issued to SIM Vendors:
1.Strict KYC Compliance: Vendors were instructed to ensure accurate and complete KYC (Know Your Customer) verification before activating SIM cards.
2.Record Maintenance: Clear documentation of issued SIMs, duplicate issuance, recharges, and logs for lost or damaged SIMs must be maintained.
3.Prohibition of Irregularities: The sale of pre-activated or fake SIM cards was strictly prohibited, with warnings of stringent legal action against violators.
4.Accountability for Mobile Transactions: Vendors and second-hand mobile sellers were directed to record all transactions with customer identities for enhanced transparency.
Significance of the Initiative:
The inspection drive is part of a broader strategy to prevent unauthorized access and potential misuse of telecom services, which could lead to security breaches. Mobile connections obtained through fraudulent means often contribute to criminal activities, including scams and other illicit operations.
SSP Kishtwar, while addressing the vendors, underscored the importance of their role in maintaining the integrity of telecom systems. He stated, “Ensuring compliance with telecom regulations is critical not just for operational transparency but also for safeguarding community security.”
District Police Kishtwar has announced plans for regular monitoring and follow-up inspection drives to ensure sustained compliance. Vendors found violating directives will face strict penalties, including possible legal proceedings. Additionally, awareness sessions are being planned to educate vendors about their responsibilities under the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) guidelines.
The SIM vendor inspection drive by Kishtwar Police represents a proactive approach to maintaining law and order in the district. By addressing the root causes of telecom-related security concerns, the initiative fosters a safer and more accountable ecosystem for mobile communications.
This robust action not only enhances the district’s security framework but also sets an example for other regions to follow in ensuring the safe and lawful operation of telecom services.
