Crime and Operational Review Meeting Conducted by DIG North Kashmir Range; Visit to Martyr ASI Showkat Ahmad’s Family Highlights Sacrifice and Commitment

Handwara : In a critical move to strengthen public safety and counter the challenges posed by crime and terrorism, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police, North Kashmir Range, Shri Maqsood-ul-Zaman (IPS), chaired a comprehensive crime and operational review meeting at the District Police Office (DPO) Handwara today. The meeting witnessed the participation of senior officers, including Gazetted Officers (GOs) and Station House Officers (SHOs), and focused on evaluating crime disposal, operational challenges, and strategic planning to bolster security measures in the region.
The meeting commenced with a detailed presentation by the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Handwara, who shared recent crime statistics and the status of case disposals across various categories, with a particular emphasis on cases registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The session highlighted the progress and challenges in dealing with these critical cases, underscoring the importance of swift and effective legal actions.
Key operational strategies were discussed, including capacity building, leveraging technology for detecting anti-national elements (ANEs), enhanced patrols, surprise checkpoints (Nakas), and forming specialized task forces to dismantle criminal and terror networks. A strong focus was placed on cracking down on narcotics trafficking, which is often linked to funding terrorism in the region. DIG Maqsood-ul-Zaman emphasized the need for coordinated efforts and robust community engagement to combat these issues. He urged the officers to adopt a multifaceted approach that includes proactive measures, stakeholder partnerships, and heightened vigilance to ensure public safety and security.

Maqsood-ul-Zaman commended the efforts of the Handwara police and reiterated the importance of commitment and professionalism in maintaining peace and stability. He directed officers to remain resolute and proactive, ensuring the safety of citizens while addressing emerging security threats. Regular review meetings and updates on the implementation of these strategies were also agreed upon to ensure sustained progress.
Following the meeting, the DIG visited the home of Martyr ASI Showkat Ahmad in Lachampora, Handwara. Paying homage to the fallen officer, DIG Maqsood-ul-Zaman expressed deep admiration for the supreme sacrifice made by ASI Ahmad in the line of duty. He assured the family of the martyr that every necessary support and assistance would be provided by the police department. The visit underscored the enduring respect for the sacrifices made by law enforcement personnel in ensuring the nation’s security.
