All India National Fencing Championship 2024-25 Kicks Off at Jammu University, Emphasizes Youth Empowerment and Nation Building

JAMMU :The All India National Fencing Championship 2024-25 commenced today at the Jammu University Sports Complex in Jammu, with an impressive display of sportsmanship, dedication, and patriotism. The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director of Sports at Jammu University. The competition drew more than 1,400 male and female participants from across the country, including representatives from Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Delhi, Chandigarh, Sikkim, Madhya Pradesh, and Manipal, demonstrating the nationwide appeal of fencing as a sport and the commitment of youth to athletics.
Opening Ceremony:
The ceremony began with a candle-lighting and a sportsmanship oath-taking event, underscoring the spirit of unity, integrity, and fair play among participants. Several key figures were present to grace the event, including Prof. Meena Sharma, Prof. Komal Nayyar, and coaches from the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Insp. Rashid of the Jammu & Kashmir Police and an International Fencing Coach also attended, highlighting the collaboration across different sectors to promote sports and the importance of developing a structured environment for young athletes.
Special Guest Address:
Sh. Shiv Kumar Sharma, IPS, DIG of the Jammu-Srinagar-Kashmir (JSK) Range, attended as the special guest and applauded Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba for organizing such a major event that significantly benefits youth in Jammu. DIG Sharma’s address emphasized the role of sports in shaping responsible, healthy, and motivated youth, especially given the growing challenges young people face today. His talk covered pressing issues including health and fitness, awareness of drug abuse, women’s safety, stress management, and the crucial role of family and societal support in youth development.
Encouragement for Careers in Public Service and Sports: In his address, DIG Shiv Kumar Sharma encouraged the youth to consider careers in public service and armed forces, highlighting the synergy between physical fitness, discipline, and readiness for roles in the police, army, and other paramilitary forces. He linked participation in sports to career preparedness in such fields, emphasizing that a disciplined athletic life can provide the structure and motivation young people need to contribute to national defense and public safety.
