Jammu : A delegation from the newly constituted All J&K Transporters Welfare Association, led by newly elected Chairman S. Karan Singh Wazir, called on Dr. Farooq Abdullah at his Jammu residence today. The meeting centered on addressing longstanding challenges faced by the transport industry in Jammu and Kashmir, with Dr. Abdullah extending his support to the association’s leadership and recalling the contributions of the late T.S. Wazir, a towering figure in transport and political circles.
Legacy and Challenges Acknowledged:
While congratulating Karan Singh Wazir on his recent election as Chairman, Dr. Abdullah reminded him of the legacy of his father, late T.S. Wazir, an influential National Conference leader and transport industry advocate. Describing him as a bold and fearless voice for both transporters and the Sikh community, Dr. Abdullah lamented the loss of T.S. Wazir, whose untimely death was termed a setback not only for the transport sector but also for the National Conference.
Dr. Abdullah further advised Karan Singh Wazir to exercise caution in his new role, citing the challenges his late father had faced, including adversaries within the system. “Be aware of those who harmed your father and remain vigilant,” Dr. Abdullah warned, pledging his complete support in tackling the issues impacting the transport industry.
Focus on Transport Sector Issues and Way Forward:
During the meeting, Karan Singh Wazir urged Dr. Abdullah to mediate for a swift resolution of the transport sector’s pending issues and to alleviate the economic strain on transporters. Dr. Abdullah suggested that the association prepare a detailed charter of demands, promising to facilitate a meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Transport Minister Satish Sharma after the conclusion of the upcoming assembly session.
Dr. Abdullah emphasized the critical role of the transport sector in regional development, assuring the delegation that their concerns would receive the government’s prompt attention. He reaffirmed that the National Conference remains committed to standing by the transporters, acknowledging their significant support for the party in the past.
Justice for T.S. Wazir’s Assassination Promised:
In an emotional moment, Dr. Abdullah reiterated the party’s commitment to ensuring justice for the late T.S. Wazir. He assured the delegation that those responsible for his assassination would not escape accountability. “We will ensure that justice is served, and those behind his killing will be brought to justice,” he stated.
Dr. Abdullah expressed his best wishes to Karan Singh Wazir and his team, encouraging them to continue working toward the welfare of the transport community. He stressed that the association’s efforts to carry forward the vision of T.S. Wazir were vital not just for the transporters but also for the socio-economic progress of the region.
This meeting signifies the National Conference’s intent to re-engage with key stakeholders in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly the transport sector, as it seeks to address systemic issues and reinforce its political base ahead of future elections.
