๐๐๐ก, ๐๐๐ฒ ๐๐, ๐๐๐๐: The National Tobacco Control Pogramme (NTCP) Cell of the Health Department in Leh celebrated World No Tobacco Day at Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School today on May 31.
The event started with a rally by students to raise awareness about the dangers of tobacco use.
State Nodal Officer, NCD Leh, Dr. Rinchen Angmo inaugurated the event highlighting the high prevalence of tobacco use among youth and its severe health consequences, including various cancers and over one crore deaths annually.
Physician, SNM Leh, Dr. Tashi Thinlas addressed the gathering, warning of the psychological and physical health problems from early tobacco use, such as poisoning, cancer, and heart disease.
Principal of Lamdon Model Senior Secondary School, Kunzes Angmo also spoke on the hazardous health impacts of tobacco.
Students performed an informative skit on the consequences of tobacco use, further reinforcing the message.
Chief Guest, Senior Superintendient of Police, Leh District, Shruti Arora spoke about the importance of tackling addiction and emphasized that quitting must come from individuals, especially during their formative years. She commended the students for their confidence and performance in the skit.
District Consultant NTCP, Dr. Stanzin Jamyang concluded the event with a vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants and attendees.
The event was attended by Deputy CMO Leh, Medical Superintendent Leh, DHO Leh, other officials, teachers, along with 700 students.
